My heart is torn between East and West. I live somewhere between the present and the past. I don't know who I am.
One of my all-time favourite poems. (re-)Reblogging because it’s so relevant right now.
Plz RT: A poem by @WalaaQuisay about Tal Almalouhi, #Syria: She almost signed it in her name, Tal.
Me? And of which scars do you speak
I stray lost in memories of what I seek
I turn eclipses of sun and moon
Yet she slipped hidden between the echoes of this tune
A tune it hums
Rhythm goes and comes
Lash! And scream
Lash! And cry
Lash! And plea
How can they but eyes just see?
And shivers the stiff corpse
And then the beating gets worse
I am numb, do you know?
I am numb, but I do not grow?
And the guilt of why I should die
And they’re glad I don’t cry
But my single lonely sigh
Raises in the air and travels by
And my single lonely sigh
Tells the air to stand still
And there
Tells the air to transmit
A truth infectious spit
That wakes the dead
That turns his head
You tortured me, but why?
I was eventually going to die.
But the bets on your head now seem high
She, me I do not see
What are they? And who is me?
Vague like the sun’s evaporating tears
Or youth dead between lashes and years
I was a friend and this is a note
That once ago she almost wrote
Some sand echoes her name that once
And through that earthquake freedom comes
To make an illegitimate order null
She almost signed it in her name, Tal.

Tal was taken in 2009 with no charge, she was a blogger, abducted from home. Under the age of 20. She remains in prison suffering immense torture till today, only because she wrote against the brutal regime, the Syrian Assad regime.
